North Sea countries have started the Greater North Sea Basin Initiative (GNSBI)

On 21 November 2023 Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom met for future cooperation incl. MSP!

The Greater North Sea is in transition; there is little space and it is getting even tighter with further developments underway, such wind energy, nature preservation, fishery, coastal protection, and freight. Because of this, the Greater North Sea countries face two main challenges. First, how to fit all uses and transitions into the basin? Second, how to uphold the ecological balance in spite of incoming human activities. This is why the Greater North Sea countries are working together on enhanced integrated and international cooperation regarding the Greater North Sea. In light of this, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom have started the Greater North Sea Basin Initiative (GNSBI).
