On the 23rd of February the Learning Strand on Sustainable Blue Economy (SBE) is organising a digital Community of Practice meeting on Energy – join as it’s open for participants!
This next CoP focuses on non-technological solutions to integrate alternative ocean energy in wind parks as a driver for accelerating sustainable energy production at sea.
We will build on the insights of the interesting discussions of the CoP meeting of November in The Hague (see Summary) and have an in-depth interactive discussion on policy recommendations to relevant authorities to accelerate the process of multi-use implementation.
The 2030 climate target plan urges the need to not only scale up the offshore wind industry, but to also unlock the potential of alternative forms of ocean energy. Therefore, coexistence between offshore wind installations and other energy technologies will be key enabler in the acceleration of development and integration of the offshore energy production into broader energy systems. Assuring minimal environmental impacts as a prerequisite. In order to increase alternative offshore energy production and stimulate multi-use, we need political commitment and specific targets to make it happen. Adaptive policies and collaboration between government and industry is required, as well as further clarification of the regulatory framework regarding marine spatial planning, auction systems and environmental impact assessment.

This Community of Practice (CoP) is organized as part of the eMSP NSBR project (Emerging ecosystem-based maritime spatial planning topics in the North and Baltic Sea Regions) and focuses on the learning strand ‘sustainable blue economy’. We invite several experts from the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions to develop a strong community around the development of sustainable blue economy and marine spatial planning as a potential driver.
